The Colorado Office of Economic Development issued a single challenge – a competition if you will – to rebrand the State of Colorado.  The only constraint was that the brand had to appeal to tourists, residents, and corporations alike.  That is, the brand had to simultaneously appeal to tourist thinking of vacationing in Colorado, it had to be something CO residents could be proud of, and most importantly, it had to engage large corporations thinking of relocating their headquarters to the great state of Colorado.

It was certainly a challenge unlike any we had ever undertaken.  A single cohesive message that could speak to all three groups?  Some said it was impossible.  Some said the only way was to segment both the messaging and the channels.  But, we’ll let you be the judge.

Since our presentation back in 2011, the Colorado Office of Economic Development has taken its open challenge to a whole new level by crowdsourcing the entire branding project to every Colorado resident.  Check it out at and see how the Colorado brand has evolved from our key image below, to what it is today. We’re very proud to have been a part of the process, and very proud to be a Colorado business.
